Cyber cafe time

In Niamey for a tour and some internet time.

Just a quick note. Added some pictures.

So right now, we`re still in the process of learning our languages. I am learning Zarma and French right now if I haven`t mentioned that yet. Not gonna post much cause I just did last week and if I`ve learned on thing about Africa so far it`s that nothing changes in a week!

It was wonderful to be able to talk with you today. The pictures on your blog give a good sense of where you are and some of what you are experiencing. I was looking for a McDonalds resturaunt or a Pizza Hut in the pictures but there does not seem to be anything like that....I imagine learning the Zarma language is challenging. Bob in Everett

JK!

Glad all is going well with you!

In case you hadn't heard Blue Devils won DCI. I went down with adam and I's cousin and had a great time.

Band Camp came and went and it was actually really good to. Got through the opener and they know the music for the first 3 of 4 songs.

Hope all is going well!

thanks for the pix Jeremy--always opens new corners of the brain to see new corners of the world. It's raining here too (but no sand preceding the storms). Mary, Colin, and I look forward to hearing about your work.

Greetings from Utah, USA! I was so pleased to see the photos you posted, so I could get a better feel for your new home. The area looks and sounds (from your descriptions) beautiful in many ways. Your dad was able to send us some satellite "snapshots" of Hamdallaye from the Google Earth website. I can hardly wait until you have a chance to check your e-mail and can identify for us exactly where on these satellite photos you are staying. Then we ought to be able to zoom in even further, hopefully on your immediate neighborhood, and perhaps even your hut! Hope your training is going well and that you are learning a lot about your new culture. Miss you. Take care of yourself.

Hello Jeremy,

I love the way you described the sound that things came alive after it's rained. I was sent to live in the jungle of southeast Asia when I was 7 yrs old from Saigon in Viet Nam. It was a harshness live, but the scenery and the peacefulness i encountered have been a life time experience. My kids also read your blog and they loved it. We would like to send some candy and school supplies to your kids in Niger, if it Ok with you. Why candy! Because during the time I lived in the jungle, the only thing that I craved most was sweet. Thanks Jeremy for your compassion of making this world a better place for all of us.

Regards,
James D.
